4-Week Self Defense Course starts next week!

We will be offering another 4 Week Personal Safety / Self-Defense Course at the Degerberg Academy of Martial Arts. Named best overall school by Black Belt Magazine.

The Course begins October 18th. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:15 – 8:15 for 4 weeks. A total of 8 hours!

In addition to learning a variety of self defense techniques to use when forced to physically defend yourself, you will learn how to avoid potentially dangerous people and situations by training to improve your:

Situational Awareness

What do I do if I think I am being followed?

Should I accept a drink from someone I don’t know?

What action do I take if I feel threatened by the approach of a stranger on the street?

What if someone threatens me with a gun?

Personal Awareness

What actions would I be willing to take to protect my life or that of a friend or loved one?

What would trigger me to start a fight where serious injury could result?

Ed Kress
For over 40 years Ed Kress has been an instructor and student at the Degerberg Academy of Martial Arts, named "Best Overall Martial Arts School” worldwide by Black Belt Magazine. Master Fred Degerberg awarded Ed his 7th degree Black Belt in 2015. Growing up on Chicago’s Southside, Ed learned early in life to pay attention to his surroundings in order to avoid potentially dangerous people and situations. With the help of local law enforcement officers and directors of campus security, Ed developed a program focused on personal safety on the streets, and as it relates to the high school and college experience. Ed has trained thousands of adult men and women as well as high school and college students to improve their personal and situational awareness and, when necessary, how to physically defend themselves using their brains and a wide variety of martial arts techniques.
